Stories From the Field
In my book, missionariesI are the unsung heroes of the faith. Right up there with all the red letter saints. They are those who, trusting God to provide for their needs, have dedicated their lives to serving others, joining in sacred journeys, sharing the Gospel by both word and deed. My hope is these stories will inspire you to become a "Sender," and to adopt one of them by praying, subscribing to their newsletters, and donating to support their good work.
But a missionary is someone who has a "mission" in his or her life, and not all are full time. Some are sitting in the pew next to you, sharing the Gospel by serving through a multitude of unique ministries. They also are"witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria" and--yes--even to "the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8) So some of these stories will be about ministries right in your own back yard.
But it would not be fair if I didn't warn you...you are treading on dangerous ground. "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." (Hebrews 10:30) You might even find yourself releasing the Holy Spirit in your own life, becoming a "missionary" too. It happened to me!
